56-year-old arrested in Valley shooting


On Monday, Valley Po-
lice announced an arrest in
a fatal shooting in the city
of Valley last Saturday. The
arrest now lands a 56-year-
old Valley man behind bars
facing a second degree
felony for the shooting that
left a 31-year-old Lanett
man dead.
On Monday morning,
Valley officers announced
they had arrested and
charged 56-year-old Stan-
ley Jeff Thrift, of Valley in
connection to the deadly
shooting that took place on
May 26, 2018 in the 1400
block of Hopewell Road.
That shooting left 31-year-
old Troy Dwight Boyd, of
Lanett dead.
Following the shooting
Valley Police announced
that they had transported
the individual involved
in the shooting to police
headquarters and he was
interviewed by detectives.
Witnesses at the scene were
also taken in for question-
ing. A motive in the shoot-
ing has not officially been
released, but is suspected to
be related to an argument
over property between the
two men.
When officers arrived
on the scene they discov-
ered Boyd with a gunshot
wound to his neck and
lying on the ground outside
of the residence. Officers
were able to secure a
firearm on the scene inside
of the residence. When
Valley EMS arrived they
determined that Boyd was
deceased on the scene
and the Chambers County
Coroner’s office was noti

Valley Police kept an on-
going investigation into the
shooting and announced
that Stanley J. Thrift was
taken into custody on June
1st. He was charged with
Manslaughter and booked
into the Chambers County
Detention Facility after be-
ing processed at the Valley
Police Department.
