A 75-year-old Lanett woman is facing a serious list of charges in relationship to child abuse allegations last week. Law enforcement officials arrested Hazel Scott of Lanett last Monday on four serious felony charges in relation to abuse of a minor.
A press release indicates that Scott was taken into custody on Monday September 26th and booked into the Chambers County Detention Facility. Scott faces charges including child endangerment, conspiracy sex abuse of a child, conspiracy rape first, and conspiracy sex abuse of a child less than 12.
The charges are serious in nature for example the child endangerment charge is a Class C felony in Alabama and punishable by between 1-10 years in prison and a $15,000 fine according to findlaw.com
The charges against Scott are related to similar charges against 56-year-old Robert Scott also of Lanett on September 1st. Hazel Scott’s charges follow an indictment by a grand jury, that grand jury indicted her on allegations of not reporting or allowing the victim to report the alleged abuse.
A press release from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Department shows Robert Scott was booked into the jail September 2nd on charges of sex abuse child first, conspiracy to commit rape first, conspiracy to commit sex abuse first, and hindering prosecution.
As of this Monday jail inmate logs do not show Hazel Scott in current inmate logs. At the time of her arrest she was granted a bond of $100,000. Jail records do show Robert Earl Scott is still in custody at the Chambers County Detention Facility. Officials are limited in the amount of information that can be released on the case because it does involve a minor as a victim.
