The past couple of months have been a bit of a “bait and switch” regarding East Alabama Horseman Associations 2017 AOHA Hall of Fame Inductee. And, unknown to him, our Mr. Calvin Veal has been at the center of it all. As a result, would Ms. Betty Veal, along with their family and friends please join us in the arena?

The Veal’s are already AOHA Hall of Fame members, but we have a very special recognition we would The Veal’s are already AOHA Hall of Fame members, but we have a very special recognition we would like to present to them this year.

What many of you do not know is that Mr. Calvin Veal was one of three founding members of the Alabama Open Horseman Association as well as a key member in the East Alabama Horseman Association. That’s right, without Mr. Calvin’s foresight and passion for providing a way for members to compete at a state level -AOHA would not exist. So, we all have Mr. Calvin to thank for his leadership and care of the people who love horses across this state.

Since 1978, for the past 39 years, Buffalo Arena -located north of Lafayette, AL (which the Veal’s own and have lovingly held horse show after horse show) has been home to so many over the years. On August 19t, the Veals hung up their spurs and held their final show on their farm where Buffalo Arena has resided since 1978. This arena has been home to hundreds of shows, as well as-provided for thousands of horses and exhibitors to compete.

For those that remember 39 years ago, horses were hauled to arenas in the back of pickup trucks (many didn’t have trailers) or in bumper pull trailers which were pulled by everything from Cadillac’s to pickups.

Buffalo Arena has played a major part in the lives of many people in the area -as the Veals have been instrumental In sharing the proceeds from each show with members for year-end awards, but even more influential is how they have provided funding for Chambers Academy school programs as well as booster clubs, volunteer fire departments, Jaycees, Girl’s Ranch, Faith Missions Ministries and the EAHA Youth Club.

On behalf of our East Alabama Horseman Association state director -Ms. Wanda Robbins, our EAHA members, and our EAHA board of directors -we are pleased to honor Buffalo Arena and in particular Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Veal and the Veal family with the induction of Buffalo Arena into the 2017 AOHA Hall of Fame.
