On Friday, December 2, 2016, the Auburn Police Division arrested Dennis Rae Ledbetter, age 46 from Auburn on three felony warrants charging him with Possession of Child Pornography. The arrest is the result of an investigation by Auburn Police, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Internet Crimes against Children (ICAC) task force.

On November 30, 2016 information was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Organization and ALEA indicating that child pornography was recently downloaded to a specific computer on the Campus of Auburn University. Through the assistance of the Auburn University Office of Information Technology the computer in question was identified.

Further investigation resulted in Ledbetter, an employee at Auburn University, being developed as a suspect. A subsequent search of Ledbetter’s office and computer resulted in images being recovered including three that were confirmed to be those of prepubescent female victims, not from the Auburn area. Ledbetter was immediately taken into custody by detectives and charged with three counts of possession of child pornography. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
Ledbetter was transported to the Lee County Jail and will be eligible for a $90,000 bond.
