It has only been a few short weeks since anxious students found their way to the halls and dormitories of Auburn University. The excitement of new college careers that dominated the minds of college students earlier this month has now turned to somber feelings and mourning as students learned that one of their newest classmates had passed away in a University dormitory over the weekend.
On Sunday afternoon shortly after 3:00 p.m. Auburn Police officers responded to a call to perform a welfare check on a student at a dormitory at Auburn University. The call is believed to have come from the parents of a young man who had not been in touch with his parents.
When officers arrived to check on the young man they discovered a dead body in the dormitory. The identity of the person who was discovered in the room deceased has not yet been identified. Police do confirm that he was an 18-year-old freshman at the University.
The body has been sent to the Alabama State Forensics lab in Montgomery for a postmortem investigation. Auburn officials do not believe the death involves any foul play. Investigators continue to look into the death.
