Ban on outdoor burning in effect

The Alabama Forestry Commission has issued an outdoor burn ban, making it illegal to burn in 46 counties of Alabama driest Counties.

Chambers and other East Alabama counties are all included.

What is historically a dry month for Alabama is starting to generate increasing drought concerns. It’s been weeks since any rain has been seen, and with no rain in the forecast for the next week ahead, the forecast for drought improvement is not promising.

Fire crews responded to 65 wildfires in Alabama on Sunday, a record number according to authorities. There have been 302 wild fires in the last seven days. Eighty percent of these were threatening structures or homes.

With no rain in the forecast, the situation is only going to get worse.
