Craig Brown has been named the new executive director of Valley Haven School and The Arc of The Chattahoochee Valley.
Brown, a longtime Valley Haven instructor, was introduced by the Valley Haven Board of Directors at a reception held at the school on Friday.
Brown has been at Valley Haven for 18 years and previously worked with individuals with special needs at The Opportunity Center in Anniston and East Alabama Mental Health in Opelika.
He will take over for Tony Edmondson, who is retiring in July.
The Valley Haven Board of Directors and search committee chose Brown to lead the school from a field of nine highly qualified candidates.
“Thanks to the search committee, the Board of Directors, the school and most of all my family for all their support,” Brown said. “I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to the future of Valley Haven.”
Brown will intern with Edmondson until his retirement this summer, at which time he will officially become executive director.
Brown is a native of LaFayette and currently resides in Wadley. He has deep roots in the city and has been instrumental in involving the city with Valley Haven through LaFayette Day and other activities. He and his wife Beverly have two daughters, Mary Grace and Tori.
