Police have identified a woman who was tragically shot last week in an incident that unfolded in the early morning hours on Interstate 85 near the Lee-Chambers County line. Police have also arrested a Georgia man in connection with the death of the woman.
Police responded to motor vehicle accident on Interstate 85 around 1:30 a.m. Monday morning. When officers arrived they discovered that much more than an accident had occurred as a 36-year-old Georgia woman was found fatally shot in the wrecked sedan. Officials have identified the victim as 36-year-old Lorena Dawn Leasure of Brunswick, Georgia. Leasure was a passenger in a vehicle travelling south on the busy highway Monday morning when she was shot while the vehicle was in motion.
Following the shooting the suspected shooter jumped from the vehicle and fled. Two other occupants of the vehicle attempted to pursue the fleeing suspect, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to track the shooter. Their actions ultimately led to an accident on the highway in which they hit a cable railing system in the highway and were later struck by an 18-wheeler. Authorities searched for the alleged shooter and were able to apprehend him later in the day on Monday in the city of Valley.
The shooter was taken into custody and has been identified as 21-year-old Larry Bradford Moore of Toccoa, Georgia. Moore has been charged with murder. Lee County officials originally were investigating the shooting and accident, but believe the shooting incident actually took place in Chambers County. The Chambers County District Attorney’s Office plans on presenting the case to a grand jury in the future. Moore has been arrested on charges of murder and is also facing charges in Georgia in relation to a probation violation charge.
