The LaFayette Bulldogs played their final regular season game Friday night as they played host to the Notasulga Blue Devils. It was «Senior Night» for the Dogs and they wanted to win this one for the 2018 Senior class
The Dogs wasted little time getting on the scoreboard behind the hard running of senior running back Robert Houston. The Bulldogs took a quick 14-0 advantage in the first quarter.
In the second quarter the game slowed down a little as both teams played tremendous defense for most of the quarter. The Bulldogs would get another score and add to their lead now making the score 21-0.
As the first half was coming to a close the Blue Devils of Notasulga finally got in the scoring column with only a few seconds remaining in the half. On the ensuing kick-off the Blue Devils surprised the Bulldogs with an onside kick. Notasulga recovered the kick with only three seconds remaining in the half. The Blue Devils tried one last gasp for a last second score, but came up short on an attempted hook and ladder trick play.
In the second half the Blue Devils made some much needed adjustments and gave the Bulldogs all they could handle for the remainder of the game.
In the third the Blue Devils would come out strong and get a quick score to close the gap to 21-12, Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs Robert Houston would get another touchdown on a 37-yard scamper to the end zone to stretch the lead back to 16 points.
The Blue Devils would not be out done as they would put together a complete drive, mixed with a combination of both runs and paases to get another score.
The Dogs now led 28-18 at the end of the third.
In the fourth quarter things got really tight. The Blue Devils came out and got on the scoreboard again with another touchdown.In a game where the Bulldogs once owned a 21-0 lead, the score now read Bulldogs 28, Blue Devils 24.
With the game on the line the Bulldogs defense made a stand stopping the Blue Devils deep in the red zone on downs. On the next possession the Bulldogs went to their bread and butter, running back Robert Houston. The Bulldogs drove the ball down the field and Houston finished the drive off with a 30 yard dash down the sidelines to give the Bulldogs a 35-24 advantage.
The Blue Devils got one last score and attempted another onside kick that was recovered by the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs ended the game in victory formation, taking a knee to run out the remaining time on the clock, leaving the final score 35-30 with the Bulldogs getting the win.
LaFayette now has a 8-2 record on the season and are playoff bound.
The Bulldogs were led by their talented senior running back Robert Houston. Houston carried the ball 30 times for 232 yards and four touchdowns.
Jamarquez Boston-Gaines registered three receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown. Alex Gonzalez has been consistent all year long in the kicking game. He was 5 for 5 on extra points.
On the defensive side of the ball, Omar Boston led the way with 16 tackles.
Trevor Vines had his best game of the year with 15 tackles and a sack. Lajareon Bryant and Yogi Barker both had 11 tackles and a sack.
The Bulldogs are now set for the playoffs and will host Cleveland at the Dogg Pound Friday, November 10, 2017, at 7 p.m. cst.
