LaFayette’s hopes for an undefeated season and state championship were dashed by the Fyffe Red Devils in Alabama playoff action Friday night. The game at Fyffe was won by the Red Devils, 53-20.
Both the Bulldogs and Fyffe had entered the game with identical 12-0 records. LaFayette ranked near the top of 2A polls, and lead by highly recruited quarterback Jartavious Whitlow, played Fyffe to a near draw in the first half, 23-20.
Whitlow accounted for the Bulldog scoring throwing three touchdown passes despite having injured his shoulder in LaFayette’s win against Sheffield a week before. Also banged up, Robert Houston Jr. gain 114 hard-earned yards on the ground.
Despite a great first half, Fyffe came out strong in the second half and scored 15 points in the third quarter and another 15 in the final stanza. They were led by running back Dilan Kilpatrick who ran the ball 25 times for an impressive 310 yards and six touchdowns.
Lanett, whom LaFayette beat earlier this season, will play Fyffe this Friday in a semi-final match-up. The Panthers, 11-2, beat Tanner, 48-42, last Friday in a quarterfinal game.
