Chambers Academy introduced John Mehaffey as the school’s new headmaster last week. The school’s Board unanimously approved Mehaffey, who had served as the assistant headmaster since the beginning of the school year.
Mehaffey will take over the position in replacement of Jim Childers, who announced his retirement after eight years of service.
“It is an honor and privilege to be chosen as the next headmaster of Chambers Academy,” Mehaffey said. “CA has an excellent student body that makes coming to work every morning fun and exciting. Students like ours are the reason I am in the field of education.”
Mehaffey boasts an impressive background that includes administrative experience.
After graduation from Glenwood School in Phenix City, Mehaffey earned his BA in Political Science from the University of Georgia in 2005. He has also earned his Masters in Public Administration from Columbus State University. Mehaffey is currently finishing his PhD in Educational Leadership at Auburn University and is expected to complete it later this year.
He previously served as headmaster of Hooper Academy in Hope Hull, Alabama. Prior to that he served as the school’s assistant headmaster. In addition to his administrative duties at Hooper he taught classes in history and law.
Since his arrival at CA, Mehaffey has instructed government, street law, civics and sociology courses.
“We are all excited to have someone of Mr. Mehaffey’s caliber join us as our leader,” Board Chairman Rickey Elliott said. “He has an impressive educational background and a proven record of success. I am convinced that John was an inspired choice by our Board, and one I expect our community and the team at Chambers Academy will enthusiastically support.”
“We have a devoted faculty and staff that work tirelessly to create and maintain an excellent learning environment,” Mehaffey added. “‘Enter to learn, go forth to serve’ as stated in the Academy’s Alma Mater, captures the essence of our purpose at Chambers Academy. I look forward to working with all Academy stakeholders to build on our solid educational foundation and I am proud to be a part of the CA family.”
