The Chambers Academy Rebels traveled to Columbiana on Saturday to play their season opener against Restoration Academy and Cornerstone Christian Academy. In Round Robin fashion, Cornerstone defeated Restoration in game one. Chambers then defeated Restoration Academy 15-0 in 3 innings to complete game two. The Rebels were also victorious in game three, winning 9 to 3 over Cornerstone Christian.

Gavin White picked up the win on the mound against Restoration. In 2 innings pitched he only allowed 3 hits. Junior, Hunter Davis went 2-3 at the plate with a home run, a double and 4 RBIs. Sophomore, Jordan Gillespie, went 1-2 with a triple and 3 RBIs. Senior, Dalton Thrower, went 1-2 and scored 2 runs. Senior, Brock Ennis went 1-1 scoring 2 runs.

Freshman, Braxton Allen also went 1-2, scoring 2 runs. All 9 starters each recorded at least 1 run in the win.

Against Cornerstone Dalton Thrower picked up the win on the mound, pitching 6 innings. He recorded 8 strikeouts, allowing only 3 hits. Thrower also went 2-3 at the plate. Hunter Davis was also successful at the plate going 2-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Blake Sheppard was 1-3 with 2 RBIs. Gavin White went 0-1 with 3 RBIs on 2 sacrifice hits. Hayden Thompson went 1-2 with 1 RBI in the win.

Head Coach Matt Smith commented “This was definitely an encouraging way to get the season started. What I was most pleased with was the excitement and attitudes that the team showed. In the game against Restoration we came out and jumped on the other team fast. That was really big for our confidence. In the game against Cornerstone we were playing a team that has been in and won our area the last 4 years. We got down 2-0 early but we quickly responded in the bottom half of the 1st, regaining the lead on a 2 run homerun by Hunter Davis. After that Dalton Thrower really locked in and was dominate on the mound. Overall, I was just really happy for our guys to see them have fun.”

The Varsity Boys are on the road again this week taking on the Glenwood Gators in Phoenix City on Thursday in a double header beginning at 3:30.

Friday, both Varsity boys and girls will return to Cornerstone in Columbiana starting at 3:30, marking the season opener for the Lady Rebels.

The first home game of the season will be Monday, February 27th, against rival, Springwood. Both JV and Varsity teams will play beginning at 3:30.
