Can you stand the heat? The Chambers Academy Volleyball teams can. After working on skills and physical conditioning most of the summer in CA’s non air conditioned gym the players are just about ready for anything. Under the direction of head coach, Chandra Beck and Assistant coach, Kim Slay, CA will use the heat to their advantage as most of the teams played are not accustomed to the extreme heat of the Chambers Academy gym.
With the first game of the season scheduled less than a month away, the Rebels will be relying heavily on Senior captains and 5 year veteran starters, McKensie Barnes and Kelsey Oliver. Both girls have improved their serving and passing game and stand to be potentially threatening for competitors. Junior, Tate Reese, who led the Rebels last season with a team high 112 kills, will also be on the starting lineup. Juniors, Mary Grayson Henderson and Haley Harmon along with Sophomore, Audra Slay, Freshman, Britten Stephens and 8th grader, Bailey Allen, round out the true varsity team.
The JV team also has a promising season ahead. Having lost only one starter to the Varsity team they have gained much in the form of 1st year players. Freshman, Britten Stephens will be returning to lead the team. Also returning are 8th graders Natalie Lovelace, Claire Allen, Lindsey Fuller, Chloe Mitcham, Mattie Reese and Kaylyn Keebler and 7th graders Kirsten Osborne and Olivia Leavins. New to the team this year are Freshmen, AJ Sorrells and Amelia Ansbro and 6th graders Kelsea Harmon, Morgan Newman, Brianne McClellan and Lexie Kepner.
Make plans to support the teams as they begin their season Monday, August 14th at Edgewood.
