Earlier this year the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce announced that it had developed a series of monthly seminars to be held throughout the County. The second of 2017 is set to take place this Thursday at the Chambers County E911 center in Lanett and will focus on Severe Weather Awareness.
At the event members of the Chambers County EMA and 911 services will discuss the importance of being prepared for severe weather that may impact the area. The seminar comes on the heels of Alabama’s severe weather awareness week which spans February 19-24, 2017.
In 2017 LaFayette and Chambers County have been spared significant severe weather outbreaks, but officials do warn no area is immune from disaster. The neighboring community of Opelika was struck with a tornado last month in the Pepperell Village area of the city. Just weeks later severe straight line winds struck the city causing extreme damage once again. To the east in southern Harris County, Ga the town of Catuala has been struck by two tornadoes since January 21st of 2017.
The seminar begins at 9:00 a.m. and spans until 10:30 am eastern standard time. The Chambers County EMA/911 center is located at 3609 Veterans Memorial Parkway in Lanett. For more information on the seminar residents can contact the GVACC.
