A student in the Southside Elementary Special Education Class, Mary Linda Ervin, was awarded a special ribbon for her entry in The Annual State Arts Festival sponsored by the State Department of Education. Mary Linda entry was a necklace and bracelet. She was one of 35 students around the state receiving an award.

Mr. and Mrs. James F. McGill Jr. of LaFayette announce the birth of a daughter, born May 22, 1975 at Lee County Hospital. She weighed in at 6lbs 9ozs. They have named her Kimberly Ann. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. David of LaFayette and Mr. and Mrs. James F. McGill of Wadley. They have one other daughter Tammy, 3 years old.

The Reverend Sammy M. Stabler, minister of LaFayette First United Methodist Church has received the Doctorate Of Divinity Degree from Universal Bible Institute located in Alamo,Tennessee.

LaFayette Brownie Scout Troop 45 held an open Sunday at the Avondale Brownie Scout Hut. Visitors came by to see the newly renovated Hut and some of the handicraft work the girls have been doing.
Jane Ann Howell was graduated cum laude and received the Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in psychology and social work during Huntington College annual commencement program Sunday May 18. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Harrell Howell 119 1st. Street N.W. LaFayette.

Gary East, a native of LaFayette, and a junior at Auburn University has been tapped by Chi Epsilon, the National Civil Engineering Honor Society. Gary was one of 11 students inducted into the national honorary. Selection by the society is based on scholarship, character, practically, and sociability. Gary is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry East of LaFayette.

Two students from LaFayette High School received scholarships to college institutions, beginning this September. Melvin Owens has been awarded a $1200.00 scholarship to Alabama A&M University and Larry Fredericks has received a basketball grant and aid from Southern Union State Junior College.
County Election Officials Named For June 10 Amendment Election: Election officials for the June 10 special amendment election,. The Committee is composed of Probate Judge DeWitt Alsobrook, Circuit Clerk Stella Pierce and Sheriff James Morgan have been announced by the County Appointing Committee.
Community Briefs : Fellowship Breakfast The area Men’s Fellowship Breakfast will meet on June1st at 7:00am at Rodgers Restaurant. Rev. Bill Choat, new pastor at Rock Springs will be the guest speaker,. All men are invited to attend.

Registration is now open at Chambers Academy, including Kindergarten for the 1975-76 school year according to Headmaster John Perry. The school will be open during the summer all day on Tuesday and Thursday Perry said.
