The LaFayette Dixie Youth baseball league will host opening day ceremonies on Saturday starting at 9 am CST. The all-day event, will feature multiple games by teams in each of the three leagues, t-ball, machine pitch and Dixie Youth. Former LaFayette DYB president Jimbo Brown will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The Dixie Youth league and machine pitch league will each play a tournament format schedule on Saturday. There are four teams in each league and each will play two games.
In Dixie Youth, the Pirates and Athletics will meet in the first game at 9 am. The Dodgers and Braves will play the next game at 10:30. The two winners will face off for the tournament title at 2:15, while the losers from the first two games will play in a consolation game at 12:45.
In machine pitch, the Red Sox and Pirates will open the day at 9 am and will be followed by the Cardinals and Orioles at 10:30. The consolation game is at 12:45 and the championship is at 2:15.
In the t-ball league, the Athletics and Cardinals will open the day at 9 am. The Giants and Red Sox will play at 10:15. The teams will take a short break after the second game and play will resume at 12:30 when the Athletics face the Giants. The Cardinals and Red Sox will play at 1:45 in the day’s last game.
The t-ball events will conclude with an Easter egg hunt following the final game.
The regular season will begin for all teams on Tuesday, April 10. Games are held each Tuesday and Thursday until May 29th, with each league playing two games a night. T-ball will begin at 5:30 pm, while Dixie Youth and machine pitch games begin at 6 pm.
