Whitesville Road Elementary School of Lagrange, Ga. Empowered Wednesday Mentorship Program and it Behavior Mentor has partnered with Eastside Elementary School in LaFayette to expand the program. The first step in this process began on March 18th when 45 students, including three from Eastside, were selected to travel together to the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga. to see the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks face the Portland Trailblazers. This Dream Game was free of charge to the students of the community. “It was so amazing to see students that had never met each other, unite as one group during this trip,” stated Jerome Cofield, Empowered Wednesday Mentorship Program Director at Whitesville Road Elementary. Mrs. LaKeyda Burnett, principle of Eastside, and Mr. Cofield have been in talks about starting an Empowerment Wednesday Dress for Success Mentorship Program at Eastside and it look like this was a great start. The students were driven to the Arena on a charted bus. Once arriving, the students first visited the CNN Center and had dinner, they then had the chance to meet some of the Atlanta Hawks Cheerleaders and visited the gift shop for souvenirs before attending the game. The Program focuses on mentoring and preparing our students for greater in life beyond school.
