Fire destroys Camp Hill church

Storms rolled across
Tallapoosa and Chambers
Counties this weekend
and left destruction in
their path. The Ebenezer
District Worship Center
in Camp Hill burst into
flames and it is suspected
that a lightning strike at
about 5:20 caused the
Chambers county
resident Joey Bruce, an
Opelika fire fighter, was
one of the first on the
scene. Although it was his
day off he jumped into
firemen mode and called
for backup.
The worship center was
most heavily damaged in
the corner where the two
buildings come together.
It is thought that is where
the lighting stuck the
Camp Hill, Dadeville,
Ridge Grove and Still
Waters, Town/Willow
Point fire personnel all
responded to the scene
after the first call came in
at 5:40 p.m.
The strong line of
heavy thunderstorms
passed through Tallapoosa
County and into Chambers
County, leaving power
lines and trees down in
scattered locations.
Police Chief Danny
Williams has stated “We
are asking everyone to
please stay away from the
fire scene and do not cross
the crime tape.” The build-
ing is unsafe at this time.
