Three winners in the Fredonia Heritage Essay Contest received their awards at a recogni-tion dinner at Fredonia Community House last Saturday evening. Molly McGouirk was first-place winner; Madyson Fuzzell, second-place winner; and Kylie Morgan, third place. McGourik, 7th grade, won $100; Fuzzell, 6th grade, won $60; and Morgan, 7th grade, won $40.The annual contest is conducted by Fredonia Heritage Association, with the topic based on the theme of the latest Fredo-nia Heritage Day. Partici-pants in this year’s contest were asked to write about some prominent individual who has impacted their life. Judges were George Barrow, chairman of the essay project; his daughter, Crystal Barrow McKinney, Houston, TX; Fredonia native Nicholas Fanning, Atlanta; and newest judge Shirley Aaron, noted au-thor and area resident. The dinner recognizes the winning students, as well as volunteers who worked at Fredonia Heri-tage Day last November and who supported the Association’s activities through the year. This year’s theme is in keeping with the current three-year celebration of the bicenten-nial celebration. The first year saluted “Our Place,” this past year hailed “Our People,” and the final year will feature “Our Stories.”
