Throughout the month of December, an exhibit by the Heart Gallery of Alabama will be on display in the Chambers County Courthouse rotunda here in LaFayette. The Heart Gallery of Alabama’s mission is to promote the adoption of children currently in Alabama’s foster care system. Heart Gallery works with local DHR offices and collaborated with Julie Ann Hyde and the Chambers County DHR to bring the exhibit to Chambers County. The photo display features the faces and stories of children in the foster care system. Hyde says she hoped the display would promote awareness of the need for adoption as well as encourage local families to look into adoption. In addition to the exhibit, the portraits and accompanying videos can be found on the Heart Gallery of Alabama website at www.heartgalleryalabama.com. There are over 6,000 children in foster care in the state of Alabama. Of these, over 600 are available for adoption. Their foster parents will adopt many of these children, but the rest are still waiting.
