Hill named LaFayette police chief

Hill23-year LaFayette Police Department veteran, Benjamin Hill, has been named the city’s new police chief by the City Council at their last meeting.

Hill told The Sun, not to expect a lot of changes. He praised his officers, in particular detectives Steve Smith and Chris Trice, who always seem to get their man, when it comes to solving crimes in the City.
“I’m going to go out on a limb,” said Hill, “because in my mind we have the top investigating unit in the entire County.”

He added, “We don’t have a lot of crime like neighboring communities.” Until a few weeks ago, their hadn’t been a shooting in LaFayette in four or five years, according to Hill.
One change Hill would like to see is the addition of two officers. He says his department could use the officers to match previous staffing levels and thus provide better protection for LaFayette citizens.
