On February 22, JPP celebrated their annual Black History Program. The theme for this years program was “Our Words Have Power.” Several of our students recited poems by Langston Hughes, Andria Thompson, and Maya Angelou. In addition, we were honored with an original poem by Tytianna Smith, a solo by Delaney Kyles, selections were rendered by our own JPP Choir and a very dynamic message by Demetrius Tolbert. Lastly, we honored three pillars in the LaFayette community with the first “John P Powell Middle School Community Service Award.” These recipients were (pictured above) Ms. Ruby H Carr, Rev. Gregory A. Sutton and Officer Danny Williams. JPP, “Why?”, because “OUR WORDS HAVE POWER!!”
