The Chambers Academy Rebels opened the season Tuesday with a 30-8 win over the Macon-East Knights.  The Rebels scored in the 1st quarter after a 24 yard run by Braxton Allen set  Cade Tarver up to score the Rebel’s first touchdown.  Quay Johnson made good on the 2 point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

The Rebels scored again in the 2nd quarter when quarterback, Payton Allen threw a 43 yard touchdown pass to Logan Broome.  Braxton Allen was successful on the 2 point conversion.  Rebels scored for the 3rd time on a 52 yard drive.  Braxton Allen scored on a 6 yard run and Payton Allen was successful on the 2 point conversion.  The Rebels led 24-0 at halftime.  The Rebels scored a final time in the 4th quarter with a touchdown by Braxton Allen.  Late in the 4th quarter with only 14 seconds left on the clock the Rebels allowed Macon-East to score on a 75 yard touchdown run.

Head Coach Matt Smith stated “I was very pleased with the efforts of the team.  The offensive line (Connor Gregory, Jake Waldrop, Caydon Smoot, Jacob Oliver and Dean Sheffield) played extremely well giving our backs big holes to run through.  Defensively, I thought we played very fast and aggressive. Braxton Allen, Dijon Darden, Logan Broome and Payton Allen all had a big game defensively”.

Braxton Allen led the Rebels defensively with 8 tackles.  Dean Sheffield had 7 tackles and Dijon Darden, Logan Broome and Payton Allen each had 5 tackles in the win.

The Rebels will travel to Glenwood on 8/30. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 c.t.
