It’s been a while since the CA JV Rebels have suffered a loss; the 2015 football season to be exact. That’s why the 18-14 loss against 3A Lee-Scott was such a heartbreaker on Tuesday night. The Rebels started off and remained strong through the entire game; going toe to toe with the larger Lee-Scott team. As Lee-Scott was trading players in and out, most of the CA team played the entire game without substitution. At the end of the 1st quarter Chambers was in the lead 8-6 with a touchdown by quarterback, Payton Allen. Extra points were scored by Chambers. The 2nd quarter was scoreless by both teams. Lee-Scott would score again in the 3rd, as would Chambers, with a touchdown by James Robertson ending the quarter with a 14-12 CA lead. The 4th quarter is where things went south for the Rebels. Lee-Scott scored on a questionable touchdown that put them ahead 18-14. Although CA rallied there just wasn’t enough time to score again to regain the lead.
Leading the defense on tackles was Payton Allen with 11. Jacob Oliver and Gavin Kight each had 7 tackles. James Robertson had 6 tackles and Jacob Crowe and Hunter Knox each had 5 tackles in the loss. Head Coach Jason Allen was quick to remind the boys immediately following the game that “We win with class and we lose with class. We will take this lesson and use it to better ourselves”. Allen also said “Our guys fought really hard and competed at a high level. I thought we did a good job against their run game. We let a few passes get behind us and the Quarterback hurt us scrambling. Offensively we played well enough to win we just had a few uncharacteristic penalties that really hurt. We gave up a questionable touchdown late in the 4th quarter but our guys fought back to mount a game winning drive. We just ran out of time”.
The Rebels have a record of 5-1 going into the next contest against Kingwood on Tuesday, October 3rd at home beginning at 6:00 ct. Come out and support the Rebels in the last JV home game of the season.
