The CA JV Rebels took on the Lakeside Chiefs of Eufaula last week in a contest that would end with the Rebels 16, Chiefs 8.
Payton Allen scored early in the 1st quarter on a 38 yard touchdown run. Logan Broome stepped in for the successful 2 point conversion for an 8-0 Rebel lead. Lakeside scored next in the 2nd quarter on a 37 yard touchdown pass. The 2 point conversion was good leaving both teams with 8 points going into halftime. Braxton Allen scored in the 3rd on a 2 yard run. He also scored 2 points on the conversion for a 16-8 CA lead. The Rebels were able to hold Lakeside for the remainder of the game to secure the win.
Leading on defense for the Rebels was Braxton Allen with 7 tackles. Dijon Darden added 6 tackles. Caden Smoot had 5 tackles and a sack and Cade Tarver had 3 tackles and an interception.
Head Coach Matt Smith commented “I was real proud of our team in finding a way to win. We had some injuries but some of the younger guys stepped up and helped us find a way to win. We are still turning the ball over too much but we are playing well on defense which has been a strongpoint for us this season”.
The Rebels’ record is 4-0-1 going into the September 27th game against Lee-Scott. With Lee-Scott being the largest school in the AISA, the 1A Rebels will have some tough competition in the 3A Generals.
Tuesday’s game will be held at Lee-Scott beginning with Pee-Wee football at 5:00 and JV at 6:00 ct.
