JV Rebels win big at Holliday Hoops Tournament

The Annual Holliday Hoops basketball tournament was held this past weekend at Abbeville Christian Academy.  All four Rebels teams were in attendance for the two day tournament.  The JV girls team brought home a 1st place tournament win with Britten Stephens, Alyssa Sorrells and Brandalon Rombokas being name to the all-tournament team and Britten Stephens being named tournament MVP. The girls defeated Abbeville in their first game 37-31.  Britten Stephens was the high scorer for the Rebels with 16 points.  Alyssa Sorrells scored 11 points.  Brandalon Rombokas scored 8 and Lindsey Fuller scored 2. Stephens also led in rebounds with 16.  Sorrells had 7 and Mattie Reese pulled down 5.  In game two the Rebels faced Pike, winning 25-19.  Again Stephens led with 11 points and 7 rebounds.  Reese scored 6.  Rombokas scored 4 and Sorrells and Fuller each scored 2 in the win.

The JV boys also had a successful weekend with a second place tournament finish.  Payton Allen and Joshua Holliday were named to the all-tournament team.  The boys defeated Abbeville in game one 44-40.  Allen led the team with 27 points and 13 rebounds.  Jacob Oliver, Holiday and Jake Higgins each scored 5 points.  Hayden Hurst scored 2 points for the Rebels.  Gavin Kite had 11 rebounds and Oliver 6 in the win.  The boys were defeated by Pike in game two 36-24.  Allen scored 20 points.  Higgins scored 2 and Holliday and Levi Waldrop each scored 1 point each in the loss. Allen led with 10 rebounds followed by Oliver with 5 and Hurst with 4.

The lady Rebels faced Westwood in a disappointing 65-13 loss.  Britten Stephens scored 7 points for the ladies.  Shelly Keebler scored 3.  Tori Harmon scored 2 and Brandalon Rombokas scored 1 in the loss.  Tori Harmon led with 5 rebounds.  On day two of tournament play the Lady Rebels faced Lakeside in a 52-40 loss.  The Ladies were led by Tate Reese with 12 Points and Stephens with 11.  Shelly Keebler added 8.  Lizzie Keebler scored 4.  Harmon scored 3 and Audra Slay had 1 in the loss.  Stephens led in Rebounds with 11 followed by Reese with 6.

The Varsity boys played 3 games over the course of the weekend.  Winning 1 and losing 2.  In the 60-42 win over Westwood the Rebels were led by Colton hand with 21 points.  Payton Allen added 15.  CJ Lyons scored 9 points.  Braxton Allen scored 7.   Jake Waldrop added 6 and Gabe Brooks scored 2 in the win.  Lyons led In rebounds with 12, followed by Braxton Allen with 8.  In the 64-35 loss against Lakeside Rodriguez Dark was the high scorer for the Rebels with 12 points.  Joshua Holliday scored 7. Lyons and Payton Allen each scored 5.  Hand scored 3.  Braxton Allen scored 2 and Brooks 1 in the loss.  Brooks led in rebounds with 6 followed by Lyons with 5. The final game was a 58-34 loss against Abbeville.  Lyons led the team with 12 points followed by Payton Allen with 7.  Hand scored 5.  Waldrop and Brooks each scored 4. Dark scored 2.  Leading in rebounds was Lyons with 9 and Braxton Allen with 8. 
All Rebels teams will resume play after the Christmas break with games against Evangel in Montgomery on January 2nd, 2018.
