The Lady Rebels volleyball team had a disappointing week as the result of losses against Autauga and Evangel; both area games. The ladies only have one regular season game to go. The results of this game will determine whether they go into playoffs as 2nd or 3rd seed. Against Autauga the Rebels lost in 3 matches 25-12, 25-16 and 25-15. Serving seemed to be the issue with the Rebels as 10 missed serve opportunities were recorded. Sophomore, Tate Reese did have 7 kills in the game and junior, Mckensie Barnes had 3 kills. This just wasn’t enough against Autauga’s strong offense.
The loss against Evangel was a tough pill to swallow. The Rebels, projected pre game to be the victor, found tough competition against Evangel. Crippled by errors the Rebels just weren’t able to pull through even though it took Evangel 5 matches to get the win. Match 1 went to the Rebels with at 25-11 score. In matches 2 and 3 Evangel won 25-18 and 25-21. The Rebels came back in match 4 to win 25-21. Evangel won the tie breaking 5th match 15-8. Senior, Kristina Stewart led the Rebels with 10 kills and 3 aces. Tate Reese had 9 kills, 3 aces and a block and Mckensie Barnes had 3 aces and 7 kills in the loss. The Rebels will play Evangel again on Thursday, October 6th in Montgomery.
On a much brighter note the Rebels celebrated Senior night last week. Seniors, Kristina Stewart and Jessica Harmon were recognized along with their parents and awarded a volleyball signed by all the players. Stewart has been on the volleyball team 4 years since its beginning at Chambers Academy under the direction of former coach, Kayla Black. Harmon played one year under Coach Black and one year under current coach, Chandra Beck. Both girls have served as team captains this year and taken on strong leadership roles within the team.
