Lady Rebels split 2

The Lady Rebels’ JV and Varsity basketball teams got the season started this week playing in a 2 day tournament at Northside Methodist Academy in Dothan. On Tuesday the Varsity team suffered a 55-25 loss to 3A Northside. Tate Reese was the high scorer with 10 points, Kristina Stewart had 9 points, Tori Harmon had 4 points and Jessica Harmon added 2 points in the loss. The JV ladies also lost to Abbeville 23-17 with Britten Stephens leading in points with 5. Brandalon Rombokas and AJ Sorrell added 4 points each, Lizzie Keebler scored 2 points and Audra Slay and Shelly Keebler each scored 1 point in the loss. Head Coach, Brandi Fuller, stated “ Our shooting was off. We just could not find the basket. We were able to get shots off, just low shooting percentage”.

 Thursday’s tournament play games held a happier ending for the Lady Rebels as both teams won. The Varsity ladies defeated Emmanuel 43-28. Kristina Stewart led in points with 14. Jessica Harmon had 10 points, Tori Harmon had 8 points, Tate Reese added 6 points and Klancy Harmon scored 2 points in the win. Klancy Harmon also had 10 steals and Tate Reese 5 steals. Jessica Harmon led the team in rebounds with 13 and Tori Harmon had 9. Coach Fuller commented “They played better than Tuesday and played great on defense. Our shooting percentage was also a lot better”.
 The JV ladies defeated Northside Methodist 30-27 in overtime play. Britten Stephens led the girls in scoring with 10 points, Lizzie Keebler added 8, Shelly Keebler scored 5, Audra Slay added 4 points, Brandalon Rombokas had 2 points and Audra Slay scored 1 in the win. Britten Stephens had 6 steals and 7 rebounds. Both Brandalon Rombokas and AJ Sorrell had 4 rebounds in the game. Head Coach, Brandi Fuller stated “This was a very exciting game. I’m proud of our girls for not giving up and playing the whole game”.

 Both teams are now 1-1 to start the season. Kristina Stewart made the all- tournament team for Varsity and Britten Stephens made the all-tournament team for JV.
