The CA Lady Rebels got the regular season off to a fantastic start this week at home with 2 consecutive wins against South Montgomery County Academy and Coosa Valley. The 3rd game this week, played Saturday in Lanett against Springwood, however, didn’t follow suit with the Rebels falling to the Wildcats.
Tate Reese led the Rebels against South Montgomery with 12 points in the 53-40 win. Following close behind were Kristina Stewart with 11 points, Tori Harmon with 9 points, and Jessica Harmon with 6 points. Jessica Holliday, Klancy Harmon, Lizzie Keebler and Shelly Keebler each scored 4. Head Coach Brandi Fuller stated “We didn’t start off well in the first half. We had 3 players in foul trouble early. We ended up playing lots of different personnel and rotations. I’m very proud of how the girls came out in the second half and played. We changed our defense and started hitting more shots. Overall, I am pleased on beating a very much improved SMCA team from last year”.
In the 33-31 win against Coosa Valley Tate Reese again was the high scorer with 10 points, Kristina Stewart had 7 points, Tori Harmon and Klancy Harmon each scored 5 points, Jessica Harmon had 4 points and Lizzie Keebler scored 2 points. Jessica Harmon led in rebounds with 14. Tate Reese had 11 and Tori Harmon had 9 rebounds in the win. Coach Fuller commented “I thought we played well with a lot of hustle and heart. We played 4 full quarters and didn›t give up. We had a great 4th quarter scoring 12 points in it. Post players well under the goal. We dominated the boards. But still, our shooting percentage needs to improve drastically. Big win against CVA”.
In the 55-17 loss against last year’s state champions and still undefeated Springwood School, Jessica Harmon was the high scorer with 6 points, Lizzie Keebler and Tate Reese each scored 4 points and Klancy Harmon added 3 points. Tori Harmon led in rebounds with 6. Jessica Harmon pulled down 5, Tate Reese had 4, Klancy Harmon and Lizzie Keebler each had 2 rebounds and Shelly Keebler had 1.
