LaFayette High School’s baseball team played their final game of the 2012 season on Thursday. The Bulldogs finished 2-4 in area play, finishing in the third spot behind Reeltown and Horseshoe Bend.

Horseshoe Bend and LaFayette played twice over the last two weeks, and both times the Generals prevailed. HBHS shutout LHS on Tuesday of last week 7-0. The Bulldogs had just two hits in the game.

The Generals held LaFayette scoreless again yesterday in the final game of the season. HBHS secured a playoff berth with a 5-0 win.

The finishing stretch wasn’t all bad for the Dogs. They were able to complete a season sweep of county rival Lanett, both wins coming in convincing fashion. Last Thursday, Rick Martin led the Bulldogs to an 11-1 win thanks to a one-hit, 11-strikeout performance on the mound. Martin was also 4-for-4 at the plate.

LaFayette’s bats stayed red-hot when the Panthers hosted the Bulldogs on Wednesday. In another runaway win, LaFayette brought the 10-run rule into play with a final score of 15-4. It is the second consecutive year the Bulldogs have swept the season series with the Panthers.
