The LaFayette High School track and field team competed in a big event on Saturday at the Wayne Murphy Auburn Invitational at Auburn High School. 15 varsity teams competed in the women’s events while 16 schools competed on the men’s side, mostly from large schools around the state.
The Bulldog women fared a little better at the meet, finishing sixth. Host Auburn placed first on the women’s side with 197 points, ahead of Opelika, Beauregard, Central-Phenix City and Smiths Station. LaFayette finished with 40 points. Valley placed tenth at the meet, while county rival Lanett finished in eleventh. LaFayette had 10 top-10’s and five top-5’s.
The Bulldog men finished in the ninth spot with 23 points. The Auburn men took the title as well on their side with 205 total points. Opelika finished second, followed by Valley, Central, and Dadeville; Lanett placed thirteenth. LaFayette finished with eight top-10’s and one top-5.
