Head Coach Clifford Story’s Lanett Panthers are making football history. With Friday night’s win over the Sulligent Blue Devils the Panthers will be advancing to the finals for the first time ever in Lanett football history.
Morgan–Washburn Stadium was packed Friday night as the community came out to support the undefeated Lanett Panthers as they took to the field to face the 12-1 Sulligent Blue Devils. Lanett scored first with a touchdown by Ja’won Howell on the first play of the game. The extra point was no good giving Lanett a 6-0 lead. The Blue Devils responded quickly putting 7 points on the board. Both teams would score again with Lanett in the lead at halftime 33-21. It was the second half of the game when Lanett sealed the deal with Terrion Truitt and Kristian Story combining for an additional four touchdowns. Truitt led the panthers with 117 yards rushing and 205 yards receiving; scoring 4 Panther touchdowns. The fog had settled thickly onto the playing field by the end of the game, however, the scoreboard proudly shone with the 59-28 final score declaring Lanett the champions in the semifinal contest.
The undefeated Panthers will travel to Tuscaloosa next week where they will face 12-2 Leroy in the state championship game. Kick- off is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Friday, December 8th, at Bryant-Denney Stadium.
