LHS grad retires from Navy after 30 yrs in service

Chief Warrant Officer Danny B. Walton
Chief Warrant Officer, Danny B. Walton is a native of LaFayette, Alabama, where he was a graduate of LaFayette High School in May of 1985.

In February 1986, he enlisted in the United States Navy and reported to Recruit Training Command Orlando, Florida as a Seaman Recruit, and subsequently attended Seaman Apprenticeship training School at Naval Training Center Orlando, Florida in March 1986.

Upon completion of school, he reported to his first duty station, USS SPHINX(ARL 24) home ported in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was assigned to Deck Department, as a Deck Seaman from June 1986 to August 1987.

In September 1987 he reported to Naval Technical Training Center San Diego Ca, to attend Radioman “A” school, and distinguished himself as an “Honor Graduate”, graduating number 2 of 12 in his class.

From January 1988 to February 1990, he was assigned to DD 987 USS OBANNON Naval Station Charleston, South Carolina as a Fleet Broadcast Operator.

In February 1990, he reported to Commander Cruiser Destroyer Group Two, Charleston, SC where he was assigned to the Communication Department, and served as Message Center Clerk and underway Watch Supervisor.

In June 1992, he reported to Naval Reserve Center, Columbia, SC as Active Duty Training Coordinator.

In July 1995, he reported to COMSECONDFLT, Norfolk, VA as Message Center Leading Petty Officer.

In Oct 2000, he was assigned to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic as Local Area Network LCPO.

In October 2003, he reported to the USS KITTY HAWK as Leading Chief Petty Officer of CS3 ADP Division. He received his commission in October 2004 under the LDO/CWO program.

In November 2004, he reported to the USS ENTERPRISE at Naval Station Norfolk, as Automated Data Processing Division Officer.

In January 2008, he reported to the USS EISENHOWER at Naval Station Norfolk, as Automated Data Processing Division Officer.

In September 2009, he reported to Commander Naval Cyber Force at Naval Station Norfolk, as Readiness Division Officer.

In June 2011, he reported to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Naples Italy, as Information Assurance Department Head.

In January 2014, he reported to Fleet Weather Center at Naval Station Norfolk, as METOC Network Division Officer.

Chief Warrant Officer Walton’s personal awards include one Joint Service Commendation medal, five Navy Commendation Medals, three Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medals, five Good Conduct Awards and various unit citations, campaign medals and service ribbons.

Chief Warrant Officer Walton is married to the former Veronica Vanessa Brown of Charleston, SC., they currently reside in Newport News, VA and are the proud parents of a daughter (Danielle) and son (Brandon), and one granddaughter (Olivia). He is the son of the late Mrs. Betty Ann Walton-Baker (Mr. Bobby Baker), Lanett, AL and Mr. Daniel Walton of LaFayette, AL, brother of Keith Walton, LaFayette, AL, and Marcus Walton, Conyers, GA.

Chief Warrant Officer Walton and his family are members of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2281 Hwy 77 North, LaFayette, Alabama where Reverend Melvin Owens is pastor.

Retirement ceremonies will be held Friday, March 18, 2016, 10:00 am, Norfolk Naval Base, Norfolk, VA., Walton’s last day of active duty will be April 30th.
