Alagasco has stood as an iconic name in LaFayette and Chambers County for decades as the natural gas supplier to the local area. A little over three years ago the company was sold off and the new owners are now set to make a major name change and rebranding effort to the local area’s natural gas supplier.
In 2014 Alagasco’s parent company Birmingham based Energen Corporation sold the company off to St. Louis based Laclede Group in a $1.35 billion deal. The Laclede group has five other brands under its umbrella all with differing names. In a few months all five of those brands will come under a common name. On Monday night Sharon Alexander a representative from Alagasco’s Governmental Affairs division made the trip to LaFayette to announce that the company was changing its name. According to Alexander Alagasco will become “Spire” on September 25th, 2017. The name change will also bring with it new uniforms, logo, and a color change from blue to orange. Alexander states that customers of Alagasco have been receiving inserts in their bill noting the change, but as the September deadline approaches more aggressive marketing tactics will be used to advise customers of the change.
