Log A Load raises $50k at LaFayette event

Loggers Giving Back in a Big Way
Just a few weeks ago the Alabama Loggers Council and the Alabama Forestry Association held their annual Log A Load for Kids fundraiser to benefit Children’s of Alabama.
The Log a Load for Kids program is one of Children’s of Alabama’s largest supporters. The Piedmont District Annual Skeet Shoot continues to be the top one-day event in support of the Log A Load program. The forestry industry is a vital asset in Alabama and began partnering with Children’s of Alabama in 1992. Since that time, Alabama Loggers Council and the Alabama Forestry Association has raised over $6.2 million for the CHIPS Center at Children’s of Alabama.
“Our goal is to unite loggers, landowners, foresters and wood products manufacturers in a com¬mon effort to benefit Alabama’s critically ill, injured and abused children,” the Alabama Forestry Association said on its website. “The concept of Log a Load for Kids calls for loggers and others in the Alabama forestry community to donate what a load of logs is worth to a logger — about $350. Any donation is appreciated and acknowledged.”
The loggers in the Piedmont District took this call to help a step further, with a sporting clay shoot, a turkey shoot, a live auction and more. Everyone who attended had a full day of fun.
The top shooters were: Trevor Potts received highest youth shooter 11-17 age; Wrangler Clifton top youth shooter 8-10 age; Kelsey Oliver over all top female; Trey Eslinger overall top male shooter; King Ford Team received top team award
Last year’s one-day Piedmont District event donated $34,000.
This year’s one day event, (April 28th @ the Oak’s in Lafayette, Alabama), raised $50,000.00+ with the help of so many volunteers, participants, and supporters not just in the surrounding area but who traveled to be part of this event. There were 40 skeet teams and many individual shooters, a huge turnout for the Loader contest, exciting moments at the turkey shoot, success at the lemonade stand with the help of many dedicated young ladies and an enormous outcome at the end of the day for the famous auction! Organizers want to personally thank everyone who had a hand in this extraordinary event and look forward to plan next years as well.
