Chambers Academy Senior Cheerleader, Melissa Milford, daughter of Judge Calvin and Sharron Milford, had the opportunity of a lifetime over Christmas break.

After being named an all-star cheerleader at cheer camp last summer she was selected as one of only 20-25% of those chosen to travel to London, England and perform in the annual London New Year’s Day Parade.

Melissa was one of about 750 cheerleaders across the United States who participated. Top performer scores earned her a spot with 26 others at the front of her group as they performed a routine to “Ghostbusters” throughout the 3 mile long parade. It was a rainy New Year’s Day in London. Melissa’s favorite part of the parade was marching and dancing through the Thames River as the weather flooded the streets.

The 7 day trip which began on December 26th and ended January 2nd wasn’t all work for Melissa. She, her mother Sharron, sister Emily and friends, Wanda and Allie Brushwood all enjoyed sightseeing with their group and seeing famous attractions such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey. They stayed at the Tower Bridge Hotel in the heart of London and shopped whenever they had free time. Melissa is grateful for the opportunity she was given. Now that she is back on American soil she is most looking forward to eating American cuisine again.
