Potlickers Restaurant located in downtown LaFayette in the former Rodgers Restaurant facility will open for business on Tuesday, November 27 at 10:30 a.m. according to owner Marcus McDaniel. The grand opening is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5.
McDaniel has put countless hours into upgrading the facility, including completely renovating the interior. He has made many positive updates to the exterior as well and has installed a brand new kitchen.
McDaniel, who has experience in the food service business, is no stranger to this area. He was born in Opelika and grew up in Alexander City. His grandparents on his mother’s side owned Walt’s Seafood in Opelika for many years and his grandparents on his father’s side are from Waverly.
McDaniel explained that the name Potlickers originated in England from the saying “the food is so good you lick the pot.”
The restaurant will specialize in down home meats and fresh vegetables and is known for its broccoli and cheese cornbread.
Potlickers will be open on Monday-Wednesday from 10:30 am to 3 pm; on Thursday from 10:30 am to 9 pm; on Friday from 10:30 am to 10 pm; on Saturday from 5 pm to 10 pm; and on Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm.
Plans call for serving lunch on a cafeteria style line which includes your choice of a meat and two vegetables or a meat and three vegetables. Each day will feature three meats and six vegetables to choose from and Sundays will feature an expanded option of four meats and eight vegetables.
Starting at 5 pm on Thursday and Friday, Potlickers will move to full menu service featuring steaks, seafood and southern food. Saturday is a menu-only day at Potlickers.
Everything is fresh and homemade at Potlickers and each table receives a serving of their broccoli and cheese cornbread.
McDaniel says he will continue to upgrade the facility in the coming months, including renovating the banquet room. He is enthusiastic about his venture and is eagar to introduce the area to the delicious menu options at Potlickers.
