Faculty, students, par
ents and alumni showed
up to Chambers Academy
Tuesday morning to meet
the new Head Master
Mr. David Owen and to
express their gratitude to
Mr. John Mehaffey for
the five years he served as
Head Master at Chambers
Academy.
One sophomore stu-
dent said she knew Mr.
Mehaffey was going to be
fun when he showed up
to school on his first day
wearing a bowtie!. Other
high school students said
their favorite thing about
Mr. Mehaffey was that
they could always talk to
him and they knew that
he cared. Elementary
students remarked they
would miss having break
and lunch with him in his
office.
Mr Mehaffey stated “ It
has been nearly five years
ago, “I took the road less
traveled,: or at least less
traveled for me, and found
myself in LaFayette,
Alabama…the rest is his-
tory. It has been an honor
being part of the Chambers
Academy Family and asso-
ciating with such dedicated
and hardworking individu-
als. These attributes have
contributed to the solid
foundation of The Acad-
emy and its recent growth
and stability in recent
years. “
“I could not ask for a
better student body and
through their leadership,
CA has expanded their
academic, athletic, arts,
and travel based learning
programs. The faculty and
staff have a passion for
teaching and preparing our
students for success upon
graduation. Our parents
provide a great support
network and are willing
to contribute whatever is
need for the continued suc-
cess of Chambers Acad-
emy. I am grateful that I
was allowed to be part of
this special group for a
brief moment in history. I
will cherish the memories
made and the relationships
developed. I wish Cham-
bers Academy the best of
luck in all future endeav-
ors!”
The Chambers Acad-
emy Board state, “ Mr. Da
vid Owen’s appointment
was the result of a lengthy
search that took into con-
sideration the needs of the
CA family and the input
from faculty, parents, and
students.”
Mr. Owen brings 25
years of educational
experience and 15 years of
administrative experience
to Chambers Academy.
David has a B.S. degree
in Health and Physi
cal Education, a M.S. in
School Administration and
a M.S. in History. He also
brings a desire to grow our
school to a level that will
ensure that we will be here
for many years to come.
David and his wife
Theresa live in Opelika,
where she is currently a
counselor at Loachapoka
High School. The Board is
excited about David join-
ing us and hopes that each
of you will welcome him
to our family. Owen is cur-
rently a faculty member of
Springwood Academy.
David Owen will
become Headmaster of
Chambers Academy, ef
fective June 1, 2018.
