The Georgia State Patrol is asking for the publics assistance in locating the driver of a vehicle that fatally struck a pedestrian Friday night near West Point Lake and only a short distance from the Chambers County Line. Upon striking the pedestrian the driver fled the scene of the deadly accident.
According to a release from the Georgia Department of Public Safety at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Friday night a dark-colored Ram style pickup truck, possibly a 1500 was traveling south on Pyne Road near West Point Lake. At the same time a pedestrian was walking south, off the shoulder of Pyne Road. Investigators believe the driver of the truck failed to maintain its lane of travel and traveled off the right side of road while negotiating the curve and struck the pedestrian.
Emergency responders responded to Pyne Road to assist the pedestrian, but the victim was pronounced dead on the scene the driver who struck the vehicle fled the scene and the Georgia State Patrol Post 2 is asking for assistance from the public in locating the pickup truck. Pyne Road is located near the Chambers County line off of Georgia State Highway 109, which turns into County Road 278 in Chambers County once it passes over West Point Lake.
GSP state the vehicle should have damage to the right front side, this may include damage to windshield and a missing headlight. Anyone with any information on this crash is asked to contact Trooper First class Jonathan Driskell with GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction team at (770)254-7201.
