The Point University family is mourning the loss of one its own following a weekend incident in Valley, AL. A popular student athlete drowned in the Chattahoochee River in Valley on Saturday April 23rd.
A.J. Houston was a defensive lineman at Point University in West Point, GA. On Saturday the 19-year-old journeyed down to the Chattahoochee River in Valley and jumped in the river for some relaxing fun. That fun would turn tragic quickly and claim the life of the popular football player.
Houston and his friends were near an area of the river by the Riverview boat ramp swimming and having a relaxing Saturday in the waters. Houston got caught in the current of the mighty river. His friends attempted to save the young man, but were unsuccessful.
Houston who is from the Gwinnett County area of Metro Atlanta was pulled under and swept away his body was found downstream from the boat ramp. The cause of death was drowning. Officials with Point University are planning a memorial for their fallen colleague. The funeral will be held on Saturday in Okolona, Mississippi
