The Alabama Sports Writers Association named Anquaevious Pollard the 2A Boys Player of the Year during the Mr. / Miss Basketball banquet presented by Alfa at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center.
LaFayette’s JaTarvious Whitlow and Rice’s Khalil Johnson also was up for the 2A Player of the Year award.
Pollard had 24 points and 15 rebounds in Lanett’s 64-48 win over Barbour County in the state semifinals in Birmingham on Feb 27.
He also had 13 points and 11 rebounds in Lanett’s 54-40 victory over R.C. Hatch on March 3 which lead the Panthers to their back to back state championship.
Pollard was also named MVP in the state tournament.
In 30 games during the 2016-17, the 6-foot-6 junior averaged 19.8 points, 13.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists.
With Pollard going hard in the paint Lanett was 23-7 for the season.
Pollard, also is a first-team All-State wide receiver for the Lanett Panthers football team.
In speaking with Pollard asking how he feel about winning 2A Player of The Year he stated: “This is my first time winning something like this, “so this means a lot.
And after winning back-to-back states titles, great stuff keeps coming, so I’m just very thankful.”
Pollard is a junior and will be returning with the Lanett Panthers on next year.
