The temperatures outside still show that it is summer, but summer break is winding down for students throughout Chambers County. In just a few weeks the buses will be rolling and the little ones will be skipping down sidewalks as they return to local area class rooms for the 2016-2017 school year. One local organization is assisting students with obtaining some of their much needed back to school supplies once again this year and received a blessing from the LaFayette City council Monday night to do so.
Powell Chapel United Methodist Church has been hosting an annual back to school bash for students and this year on Saturday August 6th, 2016 they will do it again. The bash this year will be held at the band fields of LaFayette High School from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Central Time. Last year the event serviced more than 500 local students.
On Monday night the LaFayette city council placed their blessing on the event while approving a motion to grant a proclamation for the event as well. The event is fun and free and open to all residents of the area.
