The Chambers Academy Rebels started the season off strong with a 45-0 win against the Coosa Valley Rebels Friday night on Torbert Field.  The first, of only four home games this season, was well attended by Rebel fans.  If any of those fans had doubts concerning the 2017 Rebel team before the game they didn’t have them at the end of the night.

Seniors, Blake Sheppard and Hunter Davis, shared quarterback duties for the Rebels, effectively passing the ball in part to Matthew Keebler, who carried the ball 17 times for a total of 134 yards, scoring 1 Rebel touchdown.  CJ Lyons, also carried the ball 8 times for 85 total yards scoring 2 touchdowns. Jordan Gillespie earned 65 yards on 8 carries and scored 2 touchdowns for the Rebels.   Caydon Smoot scored on a two point conversion with a 28 yard catch.  The Rebels did have a few errors offensively.  Two fumbles, one of which was recovered by Freshman, Jacob Oliver, and an interception thrown by Sheppard leaves some room for offensive improvement.

Seniors, Trevor Potts and Brinson Sheffield, block for Junior, Jordan Gillespie while he gains yardage during Friday’s game against Coosa Valley.

Leading on defense was CJ Lyons with 9 tackles.  Jordan Gillespie, Mitchell Lee and Braxton Allen each had 6 tackles and Brinson Sheffield had 3 tackles. The highlight of the night came in the form of Junior, Hayden Harris, who was credited with 3 tackles that just so happened to all be quarterback sacks.  He also carried the ball 5 times for a total of 49 yards.

Head Coach Jason Allen was excited with the way his Rebels played defensively. “ We held CVA to 42 yards rushing and 0-19 passing.  I thought we looked fast and rallied to the ball.  Offensively, our offensive line gave effort and really made some strides from the jamboree.  I was really disappointed with the two fumbles, however, one of which was lost, and the interception.  We put a lot of emphasis on not turning the ball over and we can’t have those going forward.  Overall I was pleased with our kids effort and it was a great crowd as we get the season started on a good note”.

Next on the schedule is Lakeside who has a very good quarterback and is much improved from last year’s team.  The Rebels will have to play well Friday night in order to beat the Chiefs on their home field.  Game time is 7:00pm c.t. at Lakeside in Eufaula.
