The Chambers Academy Rebels have enjoyed a stellar 2017 football season.  Going into the state playoff game against Patrician with a perfect record, the Rebels had hoped this would be the year they won a state championship.  This wasn’t the case, however, as several factors including a holding call late in the game called back what would have been the winning touchdown for the Rebels.  Despite the 22-20 results of the championship game the Rebels do have the fact that they have been state runner’s up for three years running and this year’s senior class can boast a 34-5 win/loss record for the last three years. Was there questionable officiating at the state game? Maybe.  Were there other opportunities for the Rebels to score that they did not capitalize on? Maybe.  Did the best team win? Maybe.  Regardless, the Rebels will learn from this experience and will be a better, tougher, smarter team next time because, believe me,  the Rebels will be returning for another chance at a state champions.

C.J. Lyons played a terrific game offensively for the Rebels; scoring 2 of their 3 touchdowns.  He gained 106 yards rushing on 14 carries. Hunter Davis was 3 for 7 in the quarterback position, passing for 66 completed yards and running in 1 touchdown on a keeper. Blake Sheppard was 2 for 4 passing for 55 yards. Payton Allen also passed for 56 yards, completing 5 of 10 attempts. Defensively, Braxton Allen led the team, as he has all season. with 9 tackles and an interception.  Dijon Darden had 6 tackles and a quarterback sack assist.  Payton Allen had 6 tackles.  Hayden Harris had 4 tackles and a quarterback sack assist.  Colton Hand is credited with 4 tackles and Brinson Sheffield had 3 tackles.

Head Coach, Jason Allen, stated “This was a game where we had it all right in front of us and we did some uncharacteristic things we haven’t done all year.  The biggest thing that stands out is we were inside the ten yard line multiple times and came away with no points.  The thing that really sticks out is the holding call late in the game on a touchdown but if we do what we are supposed to do we won’t leave the game in the hands of an official.  It’s unfortunate, but it’s the only lesson we can learn from the situation.  This is going to be a really tough page to turn but we will get past it and it will make us stronger.  The 2017 “All4One” team will be one of the greatest in school history and one I will not soon forget”.
