The Chambers Academy Rebels picked up a big region win against Eastwood Christian on Thursday to move to 2-0 in the region and 6-1 overall. According to Head Coach, Matt Smith, it may be early in the season but it sets the Rebels atop. Against Eastwood Gavin White picked up the win going 4 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs. Hunter Davis would record a 3 inning save in relief. Eastwood would open up a 4-1 lead after 4 innings but a 7 run fifth for the Rebels would give them a lead they wouldn›t surrender.
Brock Ennis›s 3 run double would highlight the Rebels hitting. At the plate Brock Ennis went 2-3 with 3 RBI’s. Gavin White went 2-4 with an RBI. Jordan Gillespie and Dalton Thrower each went 1-3 and Hunter Davis, Blake Sheppard and Braxton Allen each went 1-4. “What I was most proud of was the fact that our kids didn›t let getting down affect them.” Stated Coach Smith. “They fought back into the game, had a big inning then used that as motivation to hold on and seize the win. Next week we will be facing both Evangel and Eastwood in region doubleheaders along with a non-region matchup on Thursday against Lyman Ward.”
Against Evangel Christian earlier in the week Dalton Thrower recorded the win on the mound going 5 strong innings, allowing only 4 hits and striking out 6. Gavin White recorded the save throwing the final 2 innings allowing no hits. Dalton Thrower went 2-2 at the plate. Hunter Davis went 1-2; scoring 2 runs. Blake Sheppard, Brock Ennis, Jordan Gillespie and Gavin White each went 1-3 in the win. Coach Smith stated “This was a huge win for our program. It was really nice to see that we can win a game with pitching and defense even when our hitting is not what we want it to be. We definitely have a lot of areas to improve in but I am pleased with our effort and attitude our young men are bringing to the culture of our program.”
