Renovations begin on future city hall

Work is taking place at
the old McClendon build-
ing located on the Court-
house Square. George
Green, City of LaFayette
Building Superintendent
said “We are prepping the
building by doing some of
the demo ourselves. This
will allow us to get a bet-
ter idea of what needs to
be done.”
According to Green,
there is still no date on
when the city will be ac-
cepting remodeling bids.
Green gave a tour of
the 20,000 square foot
building and showed
where City employees
had already demoed and
cleaned up the building’s
basement for a youth
recreation office. The city
now has a designated area
for sports equipment and
a registration desk for the
parents and youth that
sign up yearly for football,
basketball and baseball.
Tentative plans are that
the spacious upstairs of the
McClendon building will
be remodeled and the large
office spaces will be rented
out. The downstairs will
house LaFayette’s City
Hall and the old dispatch
area will house the police
According to Green, the
biggest hold up on the re-
modeling is addressing life
safety issues and creating a
new egress for the upstairs
portion of the building.
