I told you all last week that it was rivalry week in January and it was for the LaFayette Bulldogs and the Lanett Panthers as they played the second of two games in one week on Friday, January 20.
In the first meeting on January 16, the Panthers got the win over the Dogs in all three contests.
But on Friday the Bulldogs were out for revenge and they got it.
Perfect pandemonium filled Bulldog Gymnasium a.k.a The Dog Pound, as a standing room only crowd lay anxiously in wait for this battle of the Giants.

In the B- team game the Bulldogs got the better of the Lanett Panthers defeating them 49-40.
In girls action, it was a long night for the LaFayette Lady Bulldogs.
After playing Lanett in a close game in their first match up, Lanett dominated the Dogs this time, pouncing the Lady Dogs 30-81.

Now it was time for the main event, the game of the night, the battle of the heavy weights, the Lanett High Panthers versus the LaFayette High Bulldogs.
Two perennial 2A power houses in the state of Alabama, ready to due battle for 32 minutes on the basketball court.

The game started at a frantic pace with the Dogs capitalizing on every opportunity they got.
The Bulldogs stretched out an early lead over the Panthers which would be the story line of the first half as the Dogs would go into halftime with 26-20 advantage over the Panthers.
In the second half the game grew more and more intense as the two teams battled back and forth in an effort to gain a feasible advantage over their opponent.

But in a game like this, you got to be prepared to go toe to toe all night long, and that’s what they did. I don’t think anyone left the Dog Pound disappointed from the effort put forth by both teams Friday night. At the end of the night the Bulldogs came away with the victory 54-52.

The Bulldogs had a balanced scoring attack, led by Jatarvious Whitlow with 15 points, Jamarquez Boston Gaines with 14, Devin Foreman had 11, My’Kale Trammell had 10, including a monstrous two handed slam.
Corey Boston and Jordan Wallace both finished with two points. Jalen Madden finished with 24 points for Lanett to lead all scorers.

LaFayette and Lanett are now in a tie for the area crown and the area tournament is gonna be a must see game.
