Sheriff reports death at county jail

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday that an inmate housed at the Chambers County Detention Facility had died.

On March 7, 2013 Lisa Marie Hodge, of Valley, was found unresponsive in her cell.  LaFayette EMS was notified but Hodge could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Alabama Bureau of Investigation to lead the investigation of the death.  The Chambers County Coroner’s Office, The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and the District Attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit are assisting with the investigation.

Suicide has been named as the cause of death but further forensic examination is pending. Foul play is not suspected.

Members of the Chambers County Multijurisdictional Drug Task Force arrested Hodge on March 7. She had been incarcerated for approximately one hour before the incident occurred.
