LaFayette man already in prison on other charges had capital murder added to his list Monday.
Casey Scott Smith, 32, faces upgraded charges for entering his uncle’s home and shooting him dead in March 2016, records show, after the case was moved from district to circuit court.
John Keith Smith was killed in the incident.
Casey Smith received the capital murder charges after grand jury indictments were filed by the district attorney for the Fith Judicial Circuit.
He is charged with capital murder-burglary, capital murder-robbery and second-degree escape.
Smith was arrested March 3, 2016, in LaFayette after unlawfully entering the home of his uncle to commit a theft of property, and shooting him with a firearm, according to court documents from the Circuit Court of Chambers County.
