Each year Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), have to attend and compete in a competitive event called STARS (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events in Montgomery. These events range from different categories under Family and Consumer Science (FACS). In speaking with Education teacher, Mrs. Christy Brock-Johnson, assigned the class a project to complete entitled, “Job Interview”. Mrs. Brock-Johnson asked the students to think about a job/career would like to have in the future. In speaking with 10th grader VaKiya Story she stated:She provided a Planning Process Packet. First, we had to identify a concern or problem most prevalent with our potential job and set goals in attempt to solve it. Second, we formed a step-by-step plan to solve the problem. Next, we completed a job application and resume. Then, we put our plan into action. Last, we wrote up a Follow-Up for the future.Mrs. Brock-Johnson was very impressed with my research and assignment. She chose me to go to STAR Events and repre-sent Chambers County. In preparation, Mrs. Brock-Johnson provided a professional development day lead by Mrs. Laura Anglin. She taught us how to correctly fill-out a resume and conduct an interview for a job. Mrs. Valerie Gray and Mrs. Kimberly Carter spent two days conducting mock interviews with us. I was able to present my

lesson to my peers. On Thursday, March 14, 2019 we arrived in Montgomery, Alabama at the FCCLA STAR EVENTS. We explored and had fun in the Fun Room before I had to compete. I presented a couple of hours after arriving. I was a bit nervous but confident be-cause I knew I was going to do my very best. My experience was a phenomenal one I will never forget! I attended a couple of wonderful and engaging workshops. I experienced and learned a lot from an awesome keynote speaker, John Beede. He was so inspiring and encouraging. Awards were issued on our last day, Friday, March 15, 2019 during the closing ceremony. All participants in my category were lined up to go on stage. Then, my breath was taken away when they called my name. I could not believe it. I won the gold in my category! Next, will be Nationals. It will be held in California this summer in June. I am so excited.
